If we are not being bombarded with the doom and gloom regarding the state of the economy at the moment, with numerous companies trying to sell us credit and equity release schemes left right and centre, we are also having environmental issues being rammed down our throats all of the time. Some people are obviously filled with concern over this issue, others are starting to see how futile any efforts made here in the UK could actually prove to be.
What exactly do I mean by this, I hear you ask? Well, we have to look at some of the statistics involved here. It is all very that a country that has 61 million inhabitants goes out of its way and does everything in its power to become carbon neutral and totally respectful to its environment; indeed, we could even bring in the rest of Europe and boost this number up to a few hundred million souls, but this is never going to prevent the fate that awaits our planet, as things currently stand.
This does sound very gloomy, I know, but it is a very unfortunate fact. You have to bear in mind that most of the 6 billion people in this world are making absolutely no effort, whatsoever, to curb their environmental impact. We have the likes of countries such as China, India and Brazil (plus many others) experiencing an economic era that is equivalent to the industrial revolution the UK went through hundreds of years ago. Moreover, the pollution being thrown into our atmosphere is on a far more dramatic scale.
Even the United States of America is not truly on board this environmental bandwagon - only token efforts are being made by the biggest economy in the world. With all of this in mind, personally, I cannot help but think that we are breaking our necks in the UK for nothing. The rest of the world needs to be fully supporting this and the miniscule efforts of certain developed nations will have zero impact until this happens.
